South African assistive technology organisation Shonaquip Social Enterprise (ShonaquipSE) is making selected products available through Amazon South Africa, giving customers a more convenient way to purchase essential accessories and replacement parts.
The move forms part of ShonaquipSE’s nearly 30-year mission to improve independence, dignity and inclusion for children and adults with disabilities, particularly in underserved communities.
Founded by Shona McDonald after she struggled to find appropriate solutions for her child living with cerebral palsy, the organisation has grown into a leading force in South Africa’s assistive technology sector.
The new Amazon storefront will offer selected accessories and replacement parts, while ShonaquipSE will continue providing specialist clinical services, customised mobility solutions and personalised support.
“Accessibility is not only about creating solutions; it is about ensuring those solutions can reach the people who need them,” said McDonald.
Recently recognised on the Forbes Accessibility 200 list, ShonaquipSE says the Amazon launch is another step towards making assistive technology easier to access across South Africa.
The organisation emphasises that while online purchasing can improve access, professional assessment and person-centred support remain central to finding the right solutions for people with disabilities.
