Standard Bank Hits R26.1 Billion in Half-Year Earnings

Standard Bank has posted another record performance, with headline earnings rising 10% to R26.1 billion for the first half of 2026.

The results put the banking group on track for more than R50 billion in annual headline earnings for the first time, supported by its growing African operations.

Standard Bank’s pan-African strategy continued to deliver, with its Africa Regions business contributing 40% of group headline earnings.

CIB Leads Growth

The bank’s Corporate and Investment Banking division remained its strongest performer, with headline earnings climbing 15% to R13.8 billion and an ROE of 24.8%.

Insurance and Asset Management also delivered strong growth, with earnings up 15% to R2.1 billion.

Business and Commercial Banking recorded a 2% decline, while Personal and Private Banking fell 1%.

Stronger Efficiency

Standard Bank also reported improvements in its credit and cost management. Its credit-loss ratio declined to 73 basis points, while the cost-to-income ratio improved to 49.3%.

CEO Sim Tshabalala said strong client growth, higher non-interest revenue and disciplined cost management supported the results.

The bank declared an interim dividend of R9.02 per share, a 10% increase from the previous year.
