Travel is changing fast, from luxury train experiences in Japan to extreme summer heat and unusual holiday attractions around the world.
Japan is taking rail travel up a notch with the introduction of “Supreme Class” private cabins on some Shinkansen services from Tokyo to popular destinations including Kyoto and Osaka.
Launching in October, the lockable cabins will offer travellers greater privacy, adjustable lighting and air conditioning, with larger rooms featuring small sofas.
Japan is also preparing to launch Luna Azul, a new sleeper service featuring lie-flat seats on routes heading towards the country’s northeastern regions.
But visitors can expect to pay more in another area. Japan’s departure tax is set to rise from ¥1,000 to ¥3,000, with the additional revenue earmarked for infrastructure.
