Pitso Mosimane is officially back in charge of Bafana Bafana, bringing an end to weeks of uncertainty surrounding the national team’s next coach.
Mosimane was unveiled at SAFA House on Tuesday after the South African Football Association’s National Executive Committee approved his appointment in August.
The final negotiations reportedly focused on his contract and technical team, with trusted members of his backroom staff expected to join him.
“This is bigger than Pitso Mosimane. I accept this role with great humility,” Mosimane said.
He added that returning to coach his country is a responsibility and an opportunity to give back to South African football.
A New Chapter
This will be Mosimane’s second permanent stint as Bafana coach. His first spell ran from 2010 to 2012.
Since then, he has built one of the most impressive coaching records in African football, winning the CAF Champions League with Mamelodi Sundowns in 2016 and twice with Al Ahly.
Now, he returns to a Bafana side fresh from reaching the 2026 FIFA World Cup knockout stages for the first time.
No Time To Settle In
Mosimane’s first major challenge will be the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, with Bafana set to face Guinea and Eritrea in September.
His first squad announcement is expected on Wednesday at 12:00, giving fans their first glimpse of his plans for the next chapter of South African football.
