Woolworths has recalled its WBeauty Complete Clarifying Shampoo after additional testing detected a bacterium in a limited batch of the product.
The recall affects the 250ml WBeauty Complete Clarifying Shampoo, which has been removed from Woolworths stores across South Africa.
The retailer said the issue was identified through its routine quality assurance processes, which led to further testing of the affected batch.
Those tests detected Pluralibacter gergoviae, a bacterium that can occur in wet manufacturing environments.
What Customers Should Do
Customers who have purchased the affected shampoo are being advised to stop using it and return it to any Woolworths store.
A full refund will be provided, and customers do not need a till slip or other proof of purchase to receive their refund.
The recall applies specifically to the 250ml WBeauty Complete Clarifying Shampoo.
Woolworths said the health risk is considered low for healthy individuals. However, people with weakened immune systems have been advised not to use the product because of the potential risk of bacterial infection.

The retailer said customer safety remains its priority and that it maintains strict quality controls across its WBeauty range.
According to Woolworths, its beauty products are assessed by independent toxicologists and accredited laboratories, while formulas also undergo dermatological testing.
The company said the recall forms part of its commitment to identifying and dealing with potential quality issues as quickly as possible.
