Brazil defeated Australia 4-2 in an entertaining international friendly at Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane on Tuesday, ending the Socceroos’ hopes of securing a win against the five-time world champions.
Brazil made a fast start, with Vanderson opening the scoring in the third minute. Australia responded strongly, with Alessandro Circati and Connor Metcalfe turning the match around to give the hosts a 2-1 lead.
Brazil restored parity before half-time through Raphinha, who converted from the penalty spot.
The visitors took control after the break, with Bruno Guimarães putting Brazil back in front before Vinícius Júnior added a fourth from another penalty.
The result came four days after the teams played to a 1-1 draw in Townsville, where Australia’s Nestory Irankunda scored from a free kick before Brazil equalised late through Rayan.
Despite the defeat, Australia’s performance provided another valuable test against elite opposition as Tony Popovic continues developing the Socceroos ahead of the 2027 AFC Asian Cup.
The two-match series also formed part of Brazil’s preparations under coach Carlo Ancelotti as the Seleção begins building towards the next World Cup cycle.
