Several restaurants at South Africa’s Kruger National Park are set for major changes as South African National Parks (SANParks) introduces new operators and upgrades existing dining facilities to improve the visitor experience.
Announced on 12 October 2026, the changes affect four popular rest camps: Lower Sabie, Pretoriuskop, Berg-en-Dal and Skukuza. The appointments follow a competitive tender process and the expiry of previous restaurant concession agreements.
Lower Sabie’s former Mugg & Bean will be replaced by Sabie River Café, while Pretoriuskop’s Wimpy will become Le Lapeng Burgers and Grill. At Berg-en-Dal, Tindlovu Restaurant will be transformed into Eziko Eatery, while the Cattle Baron at Skukuza will undergo refurbishment to give it a refreshed appearance.
SANParks says the new operators are expected to bring fresh dining concepts, investment and improved facilities to some of the park’s busiest camps. The changes are also expected to contribute to job creation and economic growth.
During refurbishment periods, temporary dining facilities with limited menus will be available to help ensure that visitors can still access food services. However, guests may experience some inconvenience while the upgrades are underway.
SANParks has asked visitors to remain patient as the work continues, with the upgraded facilities expected to be unveiled in the coming months.
The changes mark a new chapter for dining in Kruger National Park, as the conservation destination seeks to strengthen its tourism offering while providing visitors with an improved overall experience.
