DStv is bringing a new British crime thriller to South African screens, with Hit Point set to premiere on M-Net later this month.
The six-part series, created by BAFTA-winning writer Howard Overman, will premiere on M-Net (DStv Channel 101) on Monday, 26 October at 20:00 CAT, with new episodes airing weekly until 30 November.
The series follows London detectives Leo and Bella, played by Nick Blood and Saffron Hocking, as they investigate the robbery of £10 million (about R2.1 billion) in cash.
There is just one major problem: Leo already knows who committed the crime because he was part of the robbery.
Leo stole drug money to help pay for the care of his younger brother, who was paralysed in an accident. He must now investigate the crime while hiding his involvement from Bella, his closest colleague and the woman he is developing feelings for.
Things become even more complicated when French crime boss Pascal Dubois, played by William Abadie, arrives in London looking for his missing money.
The series combines elements of a police drama, heist thriller, dark comedy and romance, with Leo attempting to stay ahead of both the investigation and the criminals searching for him.
Overman, whose previous credits include Misfits, War of the Worlds and Paris Has Fallen, uses the story to explore characters whose good intentions lead them into increasingly dangerous situations.
The cast also includes Peter Serafinowicz as former police officer Carter, Moe Bar-El as Dylan, as well as Nadia Parkes, Ossian Perret, Joshua Sher and Brendan Coyle.
Directed by David Caffrey, who has worked on Peaky Blinders, the series was filmed largely on location across London, including Edgware Road and Paddington. The production used a small, mobile crew, allowing the city itself to become part of the story.
Hit Point was developed and produced by Urban Myth Films and co-financed by CANAL+, which will broadcast the series in more than 50 countries. STUDIOCANAL is handling international sales and distribution.
The series also has a South African connection through Brendan Coyle, who is currently filming Shadow Has Fallen in South Africa and the UK. That project is also written by Overman and produced by Urban Myth Films, and stars South African actor Atandwa Kani.
Hit Point will be available to South African audiences on M-Net from 26 October at 20:00, with episodes released every Monday through 30 November.
