Manchester United have signed 22-year-old Cameroon international Carlos Baleba from Brighton in a deal reportedly worth up to £70 million (R1,5 billion).
Baleba has signed a five-year contract with an option for another season, as manager Michael Carrick continues to reshape United’s midfield.
The move follows the departure of Casemiro and a serious knee injury to Manuel Ugarte. United have also brought in Youri Tielemans and Andrey Santos this summer.
Baleba impressed in the Premier League last season, particularly with his tackling, interceptions and ability to win possession.
Calling the move a “dream come true”, Baleba said playing at Old Trafford as a Manchester United player would be a huge honour.
The signing comes after United suffered a 2-0 defeat to newly promoted Hull in their opening league match.
United will now hope Baleba can add energy, strength and defensive bite as they look to rebuild their midfield.
