South African motorists are set for a sharp increase in fuel prices this September, with both grades of petrol rising by R1.34 a litre from Wednesday.
Diesel prices will climb even further, increasing by between R2.94 and R3.15 per litre, according to the latest adjustment confirmed by the Department of Mineral Resources and Energy (DMRE).
The department attributed the increases mainly to rising global oil prices, driven by ongoing geopolitical conflicts.
The sharp increases are expected to put additional pressure on motorists and households already facing higher living costs.
