Pitbull has spent much of his career in the spotlight, but the global music star says he has deliberately kept his children away from the public eye.
Speaking to Billboard, the rapper, whose real name is Armando Christian Pérez, said his children are not yet ready to deal with the attention that comes with being associated with his name.
“I don’t wanna put them in my world ’cause they’re not built for it yet,” Pitbull said.
The artist said he believes children should be allowed to decide for themselves how much of their lives they want to share publicly once they are old enough to understand the consequences.
For Pitbull, even seemingly innocent moments can expose his children to a world shaped by his celebrity. He said posting a photo with a young child effectively introduces them to his public life before they can make that decision for themselves.
He also raised concerns about how his fame could affect his children’s relationships, particularly at school.
Pitbull questioned whether his children would be able to tell whether classmates genuinely wanted to be their friends or were simply interested because of their famous father.
The decision is a notable contrast to Pitbull’s own highly public career. He rose through Miami’s hip-hop scene in the early 2000s before becoming an international star with a string of rap, Latin and dance-pop hits.
Pitbull reportedly has six children, but has largely kept details about their lives private.
