Australia Dominate South Africa In Durban With A Convincing 214-Run Test Victory

Australia have taken a 1–0 lead in the three-match Test series against South Africa after securing a commanding 214-run victory in the first Test at Kingsmead Stadium in Durban on Tuesday, 13 October 2026. The visitors delivered an impressive all-round performance, combining strong batting with disciplined bowling to overcome the Proteas on home soil.

Australian batter Matt Renshaw was the standout performer, scoring a magnificent 190 runs in the first innings before adding another 82 in the second. His contribution helped Australia post 390 all out in their first innings and declare at 314 for six in the second, setting South Africa a challenging target of 421 runs for victory.

South Africa responded with 284 runs in their first innings but struggled to build momentum during their second attempt. The Proteas were eventually bowled out for 206, falling well short of the target despite a determined 75-run innings from Aiden Markram, who attempted to keep his team in the contest.

Australian fast bowler Josh Hazlewood played a crucial role in sealing the victory, claiming six wickets for 49 runs in South Africa’s second innings. His outstanding performance dismantled the home side’s batting resistance and ensured Australia finished the match strongly. Renshaw was named Player of the Match for his exceptional batting contributions and valuable impact with the ball.

The defeat leaves South Africa with work to do as they prepare for the second Test against Australia, scheduled to begin on 18 October at St George’s Park in Gqeberha. The Proteas will need to improve their batting partnerships and find ways to counter Australia’s experienced bowling attack if they hope to level the series.

Australia, meanwhile, will take confidence from their convincing victory as they look to maintain their momentum in the remaining matches. With the series still open, the next Test promises another important contest between two competitive international sides.
