Beauty entrepreneur Karen Betts is challenging the idea that luxury products should be saved for special occasions with the launch of her latest product, The KB Pen.
Betts, who founded beauty brands HD Brows and LVL Lash Lift, has put her name behind the refillable beauty tool, which is designed to house interchangeable makeup cartridges for the eyes, brows and lips.
The concept is built around what Betts calls “beauty without occasion” — encouraging consumers to use their favourite products rather than keeping them untouched for a special event.

The KB Pen features a stainless-steel body with a PVD coating, a finish commonly used in high-end watchmaking. It is available in three jewellery-inspired finishes, which can be mixed and matched to create nine combinations.
Rather than replacing the entire tool when makeup runs out, users replace individual cartridges. The system is designed to reduce the need for disposable plastic packaging while allowing users to carry different shades.
The pen costs £95 (about R2,150) and includes one cartridge, while additional cartridges cost £25 (about R565) each.
The refill range includes brow pencils with flat, V-shaped tips for creating fine strokes, four Velvet Eye shades and 12 lip liner colours. The lip liners have a velvet-matte finish, with the brand describing them as waterproof and kiss-proof.
Betts, who has worked in permanent makeup for decades, also positions the brow cartridge as an option for maintaining the appearance of faded microblading between appointments.
The KB Pen is currently available exclusively in the UK through Karen Betts’ website, with the refillable design intended to keep the metal case in use for years rather than being replaced whenever the makeup inside runs out.
