Former Kaizer Chiefs defender Happy Mashiane is edging closer to securing a new contract with Siwelele FC as he looks to revive his football career following his departure from the Soweto giants.
The 28-year-old left-back has been training with the Bloemfontein-based club, with Siwelele interim head coach Godfrey Mosoetsa confirming that the team is interested in securing his services. However, some administrative matters still need to be resolved before the move can be finalised.
Siwelele Keen To Secure Mashiane’s Services
Mosoetsa has praised Mashiane’s performances in training, highlighting the experience he could bring to the squad. The coach believes the defender still has plenty to offer, particularly because of his experience in the Premier Soccer League (PSL).
The potential signing comes as Siwelele look to strengthen their left-sided defensive options following Neo Rapoo’s move to Orlando Pirates. Mashiane’s versatility and familiarity with the club could make him a valuable addition as the team prepares for the challenges of the 2026/27 season.
A Fresh Start After Leaving Amakhosi
Mashiane’s departure from Kaizer Chiefs was confirmed in June 2026, following a mutual agreement to terminate his contract. He had been associated with the club for several years, progressing through its development structures before joining the senior team in 2019.
During his time at Naturena, Mashiane made 69 appearances across competitions, scoring four goals and providing five assists. He also featured in the Chiefs squad that reached the CAF Champions League final in 2021. Despite these achievements, securing consistent playing time became increasingly difficult, leading to his search for a fresh opportunity.
The defender previously spent part of the 2025/26 season on loan at Siwelele, meaning a permanent return would see him rejoin a club he already knows.
Although discussions appear to be progressing positively, Mashiane’s return is not yet officially confirmed. The outstanding administrative matters must still be resolved before a final agreement can be announced.
For the former Amakhosi player, a move to Siwelele could provide an important opportunity to regain regular playing time and rebuild his career in South African football.
