Plett Supermarket Eyes Historic Third National KWIKSPAR Title

KWIKSPAR Beacon Isle in Plettenberg Bay is on the verge of making history as it competes for a third national KWIKSPAR of the Year title.

The supermarket, owned by Duncan Brown, has built an impressive track record over the past nine years, collecting seven regional and two national awards. A third national win would make it the first KWIKSPAR store in South Africa to achieve the milestone.

Brown attributes the store’s success to constant innovation and a willingness to embrace new ideas rather than sticking to traditional retail practices.

From introducing fresh food concepts such as poké bowls, a new focaccia bar and ramen bowls, to enhancing the in-store bakery and coffee shop experience, the retailer has focused on giving customers something new to discover with every visit.

Beyond innovation, Brown believes maintaining high standards in cleanliness, merchandising and customer service has been key to the store’s continued success. Many of the supermarket’s employees have been with the business for more than a decade, helping to build strong relationships with regular shoppers.

Adding a personal touch to the family-run business, Brown’s daughter, Caitlyn, recently joined the team and is already playing a role in preparing the store for its next chapter.

The winner of the 2026 KWIKSPAR of the Year award will be announced at the retailer’s national convention in September.
