Tyga Opens Up About Using AI on New Album ‘$tarface’

Tyga is embracing artificial intelligence as part of his creative process, revealing that AI was used as a production tool on his latest album, ‘$tarface’.

Released on 31 July 2026, the West Coast rapper’s ‘80s-inspired project blends synth-heavy production with his signature hip-hop sound. In a new interview with VIBE, Tyga explained that his production team used AI to help create certain instrumental elements.

Tyga said AI was particularly useful for adding ‘80s-style synthesizers and guitar solos to some of the album’s tracks. However, he stressed that the songwriting and vocals remained entirely his own.

The rapper compared the growing use of AI in music to the introduction of Auto-Tune, arguing that technology can become another tool for artists rather than a replacement for creativity.

For Tyga, the technology helped his team experiment with sounds while maintaining control over the overall creative direction of ‘$tarface’.

“Its where technology is going,” the rapper said, arguing that artists should learn how to use emerging tools rather than automatically reject them.

After more than a decade in the mainstream spotlight, Tyga said he approached ‘$tarface’ without feeling the need to prove himself.

The project represents a more experimental chapter for the rapper, with its retro-inspired production and use of emerging technology giving the album a distinct identity.

Tyga’s comments come as the music industry continues to debate the role of AI, particularly around questions of originality, authorship and how much technology should influence the creative process.
