Apple Unveils iPhone 18 Pro With Major Camera, Battery And AI Upgrades

Apple has unveiled the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max, introducing major upgrades to performance, photography, battery life and artificial intelligence.

The new Pro models were announced on 9 September 2026 during Apple’s first major launch event under CEO John Ternus. Both phones are powered by the new A20 Pro chip and run iOS 27 with Apple Intelligence and Siri AI.

One of the biggest upgrades is the camera system. The iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max feature a 48MP Fusion Main camera with variable aperture, giving users greater control over light and depth while improving low-light photography. Apple has also added new professional camera controls and video features.

Battery life has also received a major boost, with Apple calling the Pro Max’s improvement the biggest increase in iPhone battery life to date. The 18 Pro Max can deliver up to 45 hours of video playback.

The devices also feature a smaller Dynamic Island, next-generation cooling and enhanced on-device AI capabilities designed with privacy in mind.

The iPhone 18 Pro starts at $1,199 (R19,200), while the iPhone 18 Pro Max starts at $1,299 (R20 960). Both models will be available with up to 2TB of storage and come in black, silver, glacier and the new burgundy finish.

Pre-orders open on 12 September, with sales beginning 18 September 2026 in more than 65 countries and regions.
