President Cyril Ramaphosa has arrived in New Delhi ahead of the 18th BRICS Summit, where South Africa is expected to push its economic and diplomatic priorities.
The summit takes place on 12 and 13 September under India’s chairship, bringing together leaders of the expanded 11-member BRICS grouping. Discussions will focus on trade, investment, global governance and strengthening cooperation among emerging economies.
Geopolitical tensions, including the wars in Ukraine and the Middle East, are also expected to feature prominently as leaders discuss global security and multilateral cooperation.
Ramaphosa will participate in the BRICS Business Forum Leader’s Dialogue, with trade, supply chains, agriculture, the digital economy and innovation among the areas of focus.
South Africa is also expected to advocate for greater reform of global institutions, including the United Nations and international financial institutions, while promoting investment in African infrastructure and stronger intra-BRICS trade.
The summit comes as BRICS seeks to strengthen its influence in a rapidly changing global economy and give emerging economies a greater voice in international decision-making.
