King Charles has made it clear that Prince Harry and Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, will not return as working royals despite their move back to the UK.
A letter sent on behalf of the King by the Lord Chamberlain reportedly confirms that the couple remain private citizens and will not carry out official engagements on behalf of the Royal Family.
Harry and Meghan will also not use the styles His and Her Royal Highness, despite retaining their Duke and Duchess titles.
The clarification follows the couple’s reported return to the UK with their children, Archie and Lilibet. Any charity work or public appearances they undertake will be carried out in a private capacity.
The arrangement reflects the 2020 Sandringham Agreement, under which the Sussexes stepped back from official royal duties and ruled out a “half-in, half-out” role.
Harry is expected to continue supporting causes including the Invictus Games, while Meghan has reportedly been considering a return to acting.
The Palace has also reiterated that questions around the couple’s security should be handled through the relevant police and government authorities.
