The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) has warned social grant beneficiaries against frequently changing their bank account details, saying repeated changes can result in delays while the agency verifies the new information.
SASSA encourages beneficiaries to update their banking details only when necessary and to make sure that the information submitted is accurate and belongs to the beneficiary. Changes may require verification before payments can be processed into the new account.
The warning is also aimed at protecting beneficiaries from fraud. Grant recipients are reminded never to share their banking PIN, OTP, passwords or other confidential information with people claiming they can assist with changing their details or accessing their grants.
Beneficiaries who have genuinely changed banks or need to update their payment information should use SASSA’s official channels and follow the correct verification process. They should also be cautious of suspicious messages, calls and social media posts requesting personal or banking information.
SASSA continues to strengthen its verification processes to ensure that grants are paid to eligible beneficiaries and to reduce fraudulent activity.
Beneficiaries with questions about their grant or banking details can contact SASSA on 0800 60 10 11 or visit their nearest SASSA office for assistance.
