A 38-year-old KwaZulu-Natal TikTok content creator is expected to appear before the Durban Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 2 November 2026, following his arrest over a controversial video allegedly targeting provincial police commissioner Lieutenant-General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi.
The suspect was arrested on Sunday afternoon, 1 November, at Princess Magogo Stadium in KwaMashu, where thousands of supporters had gathered for the uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party’s final election rally.
According to KwaZulu-Natal police spokesperson Colonel Robert Netshiunda, the suspect allegedly posted a video on TikTok in which he insulted Mkhwanazi and encouraged people to commit acts of violence. The video reportedly accused the provincial commissioner of remaining silent while police officers allegedly mistreated people participating in protests.
Police subsequently launched an investigation after identifying possible criminal elements in the video, including crimen injuria and incitement to commit violence. Members of the KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Task Team traced the suspect to the stadium, where he was arrested.
The suspect is expected to face charges of crimen injuria, which relates to the unlawful violation of another person’s dignity, and incitement to violence. Police have not publicly disclosed his identity or all the details of the video.
The arrest comes amid heightened police attention ahead of South Africa’s 2026 local government elections, with authorities warning against social media content that encourages violence or threatens public order.
The case is expected to draw attention to the responsibilities of social media users and the legal consequences that may follow when online content allegedly crosses into criminal conduct.
