In a notable career pivot, seasoned broadcaster Aldrin Sampear has announced his resignation from Newzroom Afrika to take up a new position as media liaison at the Department of Tourism. The move marks his transition from journalism to public service, where he will now work under the leadership of Tourism Minister Patricia de Lille.
The announcement, made via Sampear’s social media account on X (formerly Twitter), drew a wave of public response—ranging from support and congratulations to scrutiny and criticism.
From Broadcasting to Government
Reflecting on his time at Newzroom Afrika, Sampear expressed pride in the impact he made, saying:
“When I join companies, I fix what I can and always leave those organisations elevated. My departure from Newzroom Afrika is no different. I resigned because my skills have been sought for different challenges.”
Sampear’s career in broadcasting has spanned several years, with a reputation for sharp interviewing and strong editorial judgment. However, his final months at Newzroom Afrika were not without controversy.
In April, he was suspended following a road rage incident involving a 20-year-old female student. Sampear publicly apologised and was reinstated after nearly a month off-air.

“This beautiful nation has done so much for me. I’m indebted. State policies like social grants and free primary healthcare helped pull me out of poverty, and journalism was the vehicle. Kasie FM, my first broadcasting home, was itself supported by a state agency, the MDDA,” he wrote.
Concluding on a personal note, Sampear said:
“My life is a testimony of God’s love for us, and now I get to say THANK YOU in a BIG WAY and help pull more people up with me. I’m so damn proud of this little boy. Baby se kind. Remember to love each other and lead with compassion.”
Sampear’s new role represents not just a career change, but a personal mission to give back to the country and communities that shaped his path.
