Erling Haaland has kicked off the new Premier League season with a dramatically different look, trading his trademark long blonde hair for a close-cropped buzz cut.
The Manchester City striker unveiled the transformation on Sunday, 23 August, just hours before City’s season opener against Bournemouth.
“New season, new trim,” Haaland wrote alongside a video showing off the new style. He later posted selfies with the caption, “Short hair don’t care.”
The Norwegian forward also shared a longer YouTube video documenting the haircut and his reactions from friends and football figures.
Jack Grealish: “You look about 10 years old!”
Haaland video-called several familiar faces to reveal his new look, with former teammate Jack Grealish delivering one of the funniest reactions.
“You look about 10 years old!” Grealish told him.
Former Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola also received a surprise call.
“No way! You’re lucky you have hair. I would love to have it,” Guardiola joked.
Swedish football icon Zlatan Ibrahimović also featured in the video, making the transformation particularly fitting given Haaland’s previous comments about his influence on his hairstyle.
Haaland had previously revealed that Ibrahimović advised him not to cut his hair, telling him: “Never cut your hair because the strength is in the hair.”
Clearly, Haaland has decided to test that theory.
The buzz cut is reportedly the shortest hairstyle Haaland has worn since beginning his professional career at Molde.
Even Manchester City’s official account had something to say about the transformation, responding simply: “Nice.”
With the new season officially underway, Haaland has already given fans something to talk about before even making his mark on the pitch.
