Nigerian Beauty Traditions Inspire Remi Roberts’ Luxury Bodycare Brand Raen Büti

Nigerian beauty traditions are taking centre stage in the luxury skincare market through Raen Büti, a bodycare brand founded by Remi Roberts and inspired by her childhood experiences with African black soap.

Born in Nigeria, Roberts grew up using black soap brought over by family members, including handmade batches prepared by her aunt. Those early experiences inspired her to create a brand that celebrates African beauty traditions while introducing them to a modern luxury bodycare market.

Raen Büti is based in Miami and draws on Roberts’ experiences of living across Nigeria, the Middle East and the United States.

The brand’s debut collection features a three-step bodycare routine, beginning with its Whipped Botanical Black Soap. Unlike traditional crumbly black soap bars, the product uses a whipped formula designed to provide a smoother cleansing experience.

The cleanser contains black soap sourced from Oyo State in south-west Nigeria, alongside Ghanaian shea butter, honey, turmeric, neem, moringa and orange peel powder. The formulation is designed to cleanse and gently exfoliate while helping maintain skin hydration.

The second product, Velvet Body Crème, combines mango and shea butters with avocado, coconut, jojoba and grapeseed oils. The moisturiser is designed to absorb quickly while leaving the skin feeling soft.

Completing the collection is the Sunveil Body Oil, which features rosehip, marula, sweet almond, raspberry seed and carrot seed oils, alongside frankincense and geranium. It can be applied independently or layered over the body crème.

Roberts said the brand reflects her desire to preserve and carry forward African beauty knowledge through contemporary bodycare products.

Raen Büti is available through its official website, with prices starting at £46 (approximately R1,035 or US$60). The brand currently ships to the United Kingdom and United States.

By sourcing ingredients from African producers and drawing inspiration from traditional beauty practices, Raen Büti aims to bring African heritage into the global luxury skincare conversation.
