The courtroom got a dose of medical drama on Wednesday (August 27), but not the Grey’s Anatomy kind—this one starred Cardi B, a security guard, and a gynecologist in the hot seat.
Dr. David Finke, a Beverly Hills OB-GYN who treated Cardi B back in February 2018, took the stand in Los Angeles to testify in the rapper’s ongoing civil assault trial. And let’s just say—he did not come to play.
As the plaintiff’s attorney, Ron Rosen, tried to press the doctor into spilling something spicy, Dr. Finke stayed calm, cool, and clinical. When grilled about whether he saw Cardi lay a finger—or a word—on security guard Emani Ellis during an alleged altercation, his answer was consistent and blunt: “No.” No spitting. No scratching. No swinging. No body-shaming. And definitely no name-calling, racial slurs, or fat-shaming, according to the doc.
Rosen even hinted that maybe, just maybe, Dr. Finke was trying to stay in the good graces of celebrity clients like Cardi B by siding with her. The doctor’s clapback? Basically: Absolutely not.
“It’s very important for me to tell what happened that day and to ensure that anybody coming to my office, celebrity or not, doesn’t have that type of experience,” Finke replied, with all the professionalism of someone who’s clearly had enough drama for one day.
But things got a little messier when the tables turned.
Dr. Finke said he actually saw Ellis, the plaintiff, acting aggressively—at one point reportedly shouting, “I will fk your st up,” and allegedly hitting the receptionist. He said he tried to diffuse the situation, telling Ellis to “stop and do your job,” and even struggled for nearly a minute just to get her into the elevator.
In fact, the incident was enough to make the doctor call the practice administrator and recommend a firing:
“Given what I had witnessed of the conduct of our security guard…I said, ‘she needs to go.’”
Now, in case you missed it, here’s the context: Cardi B is facing a civil trial stemming from a heated moment that allegedly happened while she was pregnant with her first child, Kulture, in 2018. Ellis claims the rapper went full WWE—scratching her with a talon-like fingernail, attempting to swing, spitting, and hurling insults like a reality show villain.
Cardi’s legal team has denied everything, and this week’s testimony from her gynecologist could be a major moment in her defense.
The trial continues, but for now, Dr. Finke’s message is clear: He came to deliver babies—not drama.
