Applications for National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) funding for the 2027 academic year have officially opened.
Higher Education and Training Minister Buti Manamela is launching the new application cycle in Parktown, Johannesburg, on Friday, September 18, with the funding window running until October 31, 2026.
The launch is expected to provide prospective students with information on the application process and NSFAS’s preparations to handle the expected demand.
NSFAS officials will also outline the scheme’s operational, technology and student-support systems. A live demonstration is planned to guide applicants through the online application process.
The Department of Higher Education and Training has urged eligible students to apply early and ensure that their information is accurate and complete before submitting their applications.
Meanwhile, students planning to enrol at a Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) college for 2027 face an earlier deadline.
Applications for TVET college admission close on September 30, 2026.
Students seeking financial assistance are encouraged to take note of both deadlines and complete the relevant applications on time.
