LeBron James has officially begun the next chapter of his historic NBA career after signing with the Philadelphia 76ers on a two-year deal, bringing an end to his time with the Los Angeles Lakers.
According to ESPN NBA insider Shams Charania, the 41-year-old superstar has agreed to a two-year, $8 million contract that includes a player option. Reports indicate the 76ers beat out several teams, including the Cleveland Cavaliers, Golden State Warriors, Minnesota Timberwolves and Miami Heat, to secure his signature.
Before making his decision, James admitted he seriously considered retiring from basketball after the 2025–26 season.
In a series of posts on X, the four-time NBA champion revealed he believed he had played his final game before taking time to reflect on his future.
After evaluating his passion for the game, James concluded that he still has the desire to compete at the highest level.
He also made it clear that his decision was not driven by money or personal circumstances, but by his determination to chase another NBA title.
James said he believes he can help transform Philadelphia into a championship contender and is excited to begin what he described as the final chapter of his playing career.
The move pairs him with an impressive roster that includes Joel Embiid, Tyrese Maxey and Jaylen Brown, giving the 76ers one of the league’s most experienced and talented line-ups.
