The first trailer for the highly anticipated fantasy epic Children of Blood and Bone has officially been released, offering audiences a glimpse into the magical world created by bestselling author Tomi Adeyemi.
Directed by Gina Prince-Bythewood, the film is based on Adeyemi’s acclaimed 2018 novel and is scheduled to arrive in cinemas on January 15, 2027.
South African actress Thuso Mbedu takes centre stage as Zélie Adebola, a young heroine determined to restore magic to her people after it is violently suppressed by a ruthless kingdom.
The film boasts an impressive international cast, including Idris Elba, Viola Davis, Regina King and Chiwetel Ejiofor.
Also joining the adventure are Damson Idris as Prince Inan, Amandla Stenberg as Princess Amari, alongside Lashana Lynch, Zackary Momoh, Richard Mofe-Damijo and Bukky Bakray.
The trailer introduces a kingdom where magic has been outlawed and those who possess it are hunted down.
As King Saran seeks to eliminate every trace of magic, Zélie embarks on a dangerous journey to reclaim the power stolen from her people, setting the stage for an epic battle between oppression and hope.
The action-packed preview is accompanied by Beyoncé’s hit song “Energy,” adding a powerful soundtrack to the fantasy adventure.
Adeyemi co-wrote the screenplay alongside Prince-Bythewood and also serves as an executive producer, helping bring her internationally celebrated novel to the big screen.
Since its release, Children of Blood and Bone has become one of the most successful young adult fantasy novels of recent years, praised for its rich African-inspired world, compelling characters and themes of courage, identity and justice.
