The United States of America has banned the future import of Chinese-made humanoid robots, citing concerns that the devices could pose cybersecurity, surveillance and national security risks.
The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has added advanced foreign-made robots to its list of restricted technologies under the Secure Networks Act, warning that the devices could collect sensitive data or be remotely controlled by foreign actors.
US officials say the move is aimed at protecting Americans as humanoid robots become more common in homes and workplaces. Existing robots already operating in the country are not affected.
The decision comes amid growing tensions between the US and China over artificial intelligence and advanced technology, with Washington increasing scrutiny of Chinese-made tech products over security concerns.
