Meta is expanding its AI assistant Muse to Mac computers, bringing the technology beyond mobile devices and the web and into users’ everyday desktop workflows.
Muse first launched on mobile and the web in September 2026, quickly climbing the US App Store charts. The new Mac application is designed to work directly with tools such as files, messages, calendars, notes and email.
Rather than functioning only as a chatbot, the desktop version can interact with applications and information stored on a user’s computer. The assistant can also be pinned to the Mac dock for easier access.
Meta has built permission controls into the application to give users control over what Muse can access. Sensitive actions require explicit approval, while access to files and other computer resources is opt-in.
The Mac launch comes as technology companies increasingly compete to develop AI agents capable of performing tasks rather than simply responding to prompts.
Meta’s expansion of Muse into the desktop environment reflects the broader shift towards agentic AI, where software can interact with files, applications and digital tools on behalf of users.
The company has positioned the technology as part of a wider change in how people may interact with computers as AI assistants become more capable of carrying out everyday tasks.
