Soweto Amapiano and Afro House duo Ama Top Dawgz are celebrating township resilience with their latest single, “Khuthaza Abafwethu”.
The uplifting track, which means “Encourage Our Brothers”, draws from the everyday struggles, ambition and hustle of life in ekasi. The duo says the song was inspired by watching friends and fellow township residents push through difficult circumstances while chasing their goals.
The release comes alongside a music video and ahead of their six-track EP, “2BDI1R (2 Big Dogs In 1 Room),” released on 11 September.
For members Ndibzar and Lendas, the music is deeply connected to their Soweto roots. Ndibzar grew up in Protea Glen, while Lendas was raised in Diepkloof before moving to Protea Glen as a teenager.
Their shared experiences of township life have become a major influence on their sound, blending Amapiano and Afro House with the energy of Soweto street culture.
The duo previously released the project “Sesfikile” and single “Phambili”, which received radio support. Their new EP marks another step in their partnership with Thumaka Music and features Boontle RSA on “Icilongo”.
Beyond music, Ama Top Dawgz have ambitions in film and other creative fields, with the duo aiming to build a body of work that leaves a lasting legacy.
