Sylvania Platinum Reports Record PGM Production As Profits Surge

JSE- and London-listed Sylvania Platinum has reported record platinum group metals (PGM) production for the financial year ended 30 June 2026, alongside a sharp increase in revenue and profit.

The company produced 95,885 ounces of 4E PGMs — platinum, palladium, rhodium and gold — from its Sylvania Dump Operations and Thaba joint venture.

Production was 18% higher than the 81,002 ounces recorded in the previous financial year and exceeded the company’s original guidance.

Sylvania’s attributable chrome concentrate production reached 50,317 tonnes, in line with its revised guidance.

The stronger operational performance was accompanied by significant financial growth. Net revenue increased 117% year-on-year to $226.3 million, while earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA) climbed 289% to $114.2 million.

Net profit also rose by 229% to $66.4 million.

The company reported an average 4E gross basket price of $2,404 per ounce and declared a final cash dividend of 4 pence per ordinary share, bringing the full-year dividend to 6 pence per share.

Sylvania Plans Further Investment

The Thaba joint venture was commissioned during the year and is continuing to ramp up. For the 2027 financial year, Sylvania is targeting between 85,000 and 95,000 ounces of 4E PGMs, alongside 110,000 to 140,000 tonnes of attributable chrome concentrate.

CEO Jaco Prinsloo said the company would continue investing in expansion and new projects while also prioritising shareholder returns.

“Our strong cash position, operational efficiencies and lower-cost operations give us the flexibility to manage these requirements and to consider external expansion projects as they present themselves,” Prinsloo said.

Sylvania also returned capital to shareholders through a share buyback, purchasing about 1.98 million shares for approximately $2.4 million during the 2026 financial year.

The company has now launched another buyback programme, with up to $1.5 million allocated for the purchase of ordinary shares.

The latest programme will be executed by Panmure Liberum on behalf of Sylvania.
