Model, entrepreneur and philanthropist Brown Mbombo is bringing women from the worlds of entertainment, business and philanthropy together for a football tournament with a purpose.
The Soccer Fab 5-A-Side Ladies Soccer Tournament will take place on 26 September 2026 at the Mall of Africa Level 5 Rooftop Soccer Park, with 28 women competing across four teams.
Hosted in partnership with the KwaMbombo Foundation, Happy Kidz and Frdm, the event is built around the message: Play. Donate. Make a Difference.
Instead of traditional entry fees, participants and supporters are encouraged to contribute sanitary towels and toiletries, which will be donated to women and girls in need.
The winning team will also have the opportunity to choose the charity or community that receives the collected donations, allowing participants to direct the support towards a cause that matters to them.
From Fun Day To Community Initiative
Soccer Fab began as a social football day involving Mbombo and her friends. After seeing the interest it generated, she decided to turn the event into an opportunity to support disadvantaged children and communities.
For Mbombo, the initiative is also personal.
Growing up in a single-parent household, she says she witnessed the challenges of providing basic necessities. That experience shaped her desire to use Soccer Fab to help provide items that are often taken for granted, including soap and menstrual products.
The tournament also comes as conversations around women’s safety remain prominent in South Africa. Mbombo hopes the event can give women a space to exercise, connect and enjoy themselves while remembering those who do not have the same freedom.
“Soccer Fab gives us a day where, even if only for a few hours, women can come together, laugh, play, connect and simply enjoy being themselves,” she said.
Beyond the football, the event aims to show that giving back can happen through simple community experiences.
Whether attending as a player or spectator, guests can contribute to the initiative while enjoying food, drinks and the tournament atmosphere.
