TikTok’s #LevelUpAfrica Event Empowers SA Creators to Turn Content into Careers

TikTok rolled out the red carpet for its annual #LevelUpAfrica Creator Education Day, uniting South Africa’s creative minds, digital leaders, government officials, and influencers for a high-energy day focused on turning content into careers.

Held in Johannesburg, the event underscored TikTok’s ongoing investment in South Africa’s digital economy, with a sharp focus on empowering young creators to level up their storytelling, monetisation, and impact.

The education day forms part of TikTok’s broader #LevelUpAfrica initiative, which aims to equip 3,000 creators across Sub-Saharan Africa with the skills and tools they need to thrive on the platform — and beyond — by the end of 2025.

“We’re not just teaching people how to use TikTok,” said Boniswa Sidwaba, TikTok’s Head of Content Operations for Sub-Saharan Africa. “We’re building a creative economy, sparking collaboration, and creating long-term career opportunities.”

Attendees got the inside scoop on key topics like:

Content monetisation

Storytelling strategies

Account health and safety

Audience growth techniques

Creators also had direct access to the TikTok team and industry experts, giving them practical insights on how to transform their content into income, impact, and influence.

Some of South Africa’s top TikTok talent showed up to share their journeys:

The DreamBoys and Keegan Gordon, known for their viral social impact challenges, spoke on using TikTok as a platform for positive change.

“One device can change your life — or someone else’s,” said Gordon. “It all starts with telling your story.”

Nathan Molefe, aka the ‘King of Skits’, and lifestyle influencer Yolenda Jawe (Yolzchannel) brought star power and smart content advice.

Acclaimed TV and film professional Ayanda Halimana reminded creators to be intentional:

“Know your ‘why’. Take your content seriously. The stories you tell matter.”

With backing from partners like the National Film and Video Foundation, the event was more than just a workshop — it was a launchpad.

TikTok showcased how its global platform is creating local opportunity, especially for the next generation of African creators navigating the evolving digital economy.

As the creator community continues to grow, events like #LevelUpAfrica prove that South Africans are not just consuming content — they’re building careers, communities, and companies one post at a time.
